Holistic Health and Fitness

Dr. Heymen acknowledges that a person's overall health is dependent not only on their mental and emotional well-being, but also on their physical fitness. That is why she "practices what she preaches". Dr. Heymen balances her own personal life with Nia. Nia is a body, mind, emotion and spirit fusion fitness program. It combines dance arts, martial arts, and healing arts and incorporates music from around the world. Self-expression, and maintaining health through movement, are its guiding principles. Dr. Heymen is a certified Black Belt Nia instructor and teaches classes at The Joy of Movement at Chatham Mills.

In 2011, Dr. Heymen together with her husband Dr. Steve Heymen, opened The Joy of Movement Studio in Pittsboro. Dr. Heymen's goal was to offer teachers a safe an beautiful space to share their Movement and Healing practices. The studio is also a home to musicians who appreciate it's outstanding acoustics. By opening The Joy of Movement Studio, Dr. Heymen shows a further commitment to her holistic health and fitness beliefs.

The Joy of Movement Studio became a Nonprofit Organization in 2016. To learn more about the practice of NIA and/or the Studio, please refer to the following website: thejoyofmovementcm.com.
