ADD/ADHD

Dr. Heymen is dedicated to helping individuals with ADD/ADHD to achieve their maximum potential. She works with the individual and a team of specialists to set clear goals and establish a therapeutic and educational partnership to meet personal objectives. Typically, multi-dimensional problems (like ADD/ADHD) require a multi-disciplinary approach. This “team” approach to patient care allows the patient to simultaneously address multiple needs and optimize their functionality.

When an individual is diagnosed with ADD/ADHD, either by their physician or psychiatrist, they have the option of choosing various forms of treatment. When appropriate, a physician may prescribe medication to assist in treating this condition. Psychological counseling may also be used - exclusively or in combination with prescribed medication.

Dr. Heymen also works with individuals to address any psychological issues which often accompany ADD/ADHD, such as depression, low self-esteem, anxiety and trauma. ADD/ADHD not only affects the individual who has it, but also their interpersonal relationships. Sometimes marital therapy is helpful as part of the treatment plan.

Individuals with ADD/ADHD also have the option to seek coaching. Home organization, money management, family communications, scheduling, work and/or school issues, procrastination, decision making, prioritizing, diet, exercise and time management are areas that can be effectively addressed. Dr Heymen works in conjunction with the ADD/ADHD coach so that care is coordinated.
